The wonders of wool

I admit it. I am completely in love with felted wool. Whether it comes in the form of sweaters and vintage blankets, recycled scraps, etc. I love it! I enjoy the hunt of the finding wool items to recycle and turn into something beautiful. I love processing and felted the wool myself. And then, the joy of turning into something new and usable and beautiful!

My art studio is getting crammed with containers of felted wool and it's a battle of wills between the pull of the painting or the sewing machine and wool! So, I thought I would share a few items I've been making. The earrings above I just listed on my Etsy store.

This is a felted wool scarf made from Pendleton blanket scraps. I love the colors mixed with the zigzag stitched making it a patchwork scarf that is warm and cozy against my neck. Plus, it's just too darn fun not to make!

I'm gonna be busy during the next few weeks in my effort to make new items like these for the upcoming holiday sales. But I will try to share some of my favorites with you too!

A change in seasons, a change in crafts

If I haven't shouted it from the rooftops yet, I LOVE Autumn. It has always been my favorite season, filled with changing leaves, crisp air, pumpkins, hot baked goods and so much of one of my favorite colors - orange.

These lovely chinese lantern blooms came from a neighbor down the street, who just made a pile of yard clippings on his property, with these on top. I saw them from the car and came to a screeching halt, probably confusing the heck out of Hazel! I jumped from the car and began the frantic gathering of lanterns. After a few days drying on my front porch, here they are in all their resplendent fall glory! Ah, I love Autumn.

LinkI've also been busy crafting with recycled and felted wool sweaters! It is so fun and I'm just in love with the soft texture, working with recycled objects, and slow steadiness of stitch after stitch. Here is a cute little hotpad/trivet that I listed for sale on my Etsy store! I just love it!

I've also been baking, which is pretty unusual for me. I would share photos, but alas, they never last that long!

Stay crafty!

Greetings and New Beginnings

LinkWelcome to my new blog! I love handcrafted items, either by my own hands or others.

I am a professional artist (encaustic painter) but I have an obsessive personality that makes me love to make things in general - art, crafts, messes, you get the idea. To top it all off, I am also a mother of a very active 17 month old baby girl.

Needless to say, I try to allow some creative outlet to most of my days, and this is where I will share them! So, expect photos of craft projects and other fun handcrafted items. My artwork will remain on my fine art blog, but this place will celebrate all things handcrafted.
